Seeking God

Are you wondering about God and how to know him, but you're not quite sure how to connect? You need information to know who God is and why the human race has become alienated from Him. You also need to know about God's provision for man's alienation. The information you need is found in the Bible and is known as the "good news." The following outline entitled "Are you Worshipping The True God," summarizes what you need to know to connect with the God who made you. We hope it will help you.

ARE YOU WORSHIPPING THE ONE TRUE GOD?

Have you heard about the glory and greatness of God?

Do you know that God deserves your love and worship?

Do you know that you can worship God properly only through the sin-conquering work of the Lord Jesus Christ?

THE ONE TRUE GOD DESERVES YOUR WORSHIP

The Bible teaches that the true God is so glorious (full of majesty, excellence, splendor and beauty) and great (important, powerful and exalted) that He deserves the worship (love, praise and obedience) of each and every person on earth.

Psalm 96:3-4, 7-8 Declare His glory among the nations .... For great is the Lord and most worthy of praise.... Give to the Lord, O tribes of the peoples .... Give to the Lord the glory due His name.

SIN HAS DESTROYED TRUE WORSHIP; NO ONE, BY NATURE, WORSHIPS THE TRUE GOD

The Bible also teaches that because of sin, all people (Americans and all others) have a natural inclination or tendency to worship false gods, idols of their own invention, and other humans and creatures, instead of the one true God. God is very displeased with our false worship and false religion.
Romans 1:21; 25 For although they knew God, they did not honor Him as God nor gave thanks to Him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator --who is forever praised. .

Romans 3:11, 18 There is no one who understands, There is none who seeks for God; ... There is no fear of God before their eyes.

THREE REASONS WHY YOU SHOULD WORSHIP THE ONE TRUE GOD

God is Your Glorious Creator and Sustainer (protector and provider)
Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
Genesis 1:28 And God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.
Acts 17:25 He Himself gives to all life and breath and all things.
Acts 17:28 In Him we live and move and have our being.
God is Glorious In His Patience With Your Sin
  1. Sin is selfish disobedience and rebellion against God’s holy laws. Sin is "self indulgence now" (S-I-N). Since God is our Creator and Sustainer, we are accountable to Him and His laws.
  2. Jesus summarized God’s law as "Love God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength and love your neighbor as yourself" (Matthew 22:34-40).
  3. No one has ever fully obeyed these two laws that summarize God’s whole law. We all daily break God’s law in thoughts, words and actions. All have a bad record before God.
    Romans 3:10; 12 There is none righteous, not even one.... There is none who does good, not even one.
    Romans 3:23 All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God
  4. Sin is serious: it brings death; it breaks our fellowship with God; it ruins us and leaves us spiritually helpless (bad life); it makes us liable to God’s just punishment on earth and to eternal punishment in hell.
    Isaiah 59:2 ... Your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God; your sins have hidden His face ...
    Romans 5:6 ... While we were still helpless ... Christ died for the ungodly.
    Matthew 5:41 Then He [Jesus] will say to those on his left, `Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.’
  5. Sin comes from our wicked, selfish hearts. All of us, by nature, have a bad heart.
    Mark 7:21-22 For from within, out of men's hearts, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, malice, deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride and foolishness.
  6. God is holy and cannot approve of sin. He is rightly angry with our false worship and our sin and yet, in His patience, He withholds His judgment on sinners in order to call many to repentance that they might escape the coming wrath and judgment.
    Romans 1:18 The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of men who suppress the truth by their wickedness.
    Romans 14:12 ... Each one of us will give an account of himself to God.
    Psalm 145:8 The Lord is gracious and merciful; slow to anger and great in lovingkindness.
    1. 1 Thessalonians 1:10 ... Jesus ... delivers us from the wrath to come.
    2. God Is Glorious In His Provision For Sinners
      1. God sent His Son Jesus Christ to this earth to rescue sinners. The Lord Jesus is fully God and fully man.
        I Timothy 1:15 ... Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners ....
        John 1:1, 3, 14 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.... All things were made by Him.... And the Word became flesh and lived among us....
        Colossians 2:9 In Christ all the fulness of Deity lives in bodily form.
      2. Jesus came to keep the whole law for His people and to suffer the punishment due to their sin. He came to conquer sin through His life, death and resurrection. He came to give many people a new record, a new heart and a new life so that they might truly worship God.
        Romans 5:8 God demonstrates His own love for us in this: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
        1 Peter 3:18 Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous that He might bring us to God....
        Acts 10:40 God raised Him up on the third day.... Through His name everyone who believes in Him receives forgiveness of sins.

HERE’S HOW YOU CAN COME TO KNOW AND WORSHIP THE ONE TRUE AND GLORIOUS GOD

God offers the gift of a new record, a new heart and a new life to all who will repent of sin and believe in the Lord Jesus Christ. Repentance is to be sorry for sin and to hate and forsake it because it is displeasing to God. Repentance is changing your mind, attitude and behavior toward sin, God, yourself and how to be right with God by laying down your weapons of rebellion and surrendering to God and to God’s Word, the Bible. Proverbs 28:13 He who conceals his sins does not prosper, but he who confesses and forsakes them will find mercy. Acts 17:30 [God] now he commands all people everywhere to repent. For he has set a day when he will judge the world with justice by the man he has appointed. He has given proof of this to all men by raising him from the dead." Saving faith in Jesus Christ is trusting Him alone for salvation. It is relying in Christ alone to restore you to God and to give you the new record, new heart and new life required for true worship of the true God. Acts 16:31 They replied, "Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved --you and your household." John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that the ones believing in him should not perish but have eternal life.

GOD IS SEEKING PEOPLE ALL OVER THE WORLD TO BE HIS TRUE WORSHIPPERS

John 4:23 ... A time is coming ... when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for such people the Father is seeking to be His worshippers.

HERE IS WHAT GOD IS CALLING YOU TO DO TO BECOME A TRUE WORSHIPPER OF THE TRUE AND GLORIOUS GOD

You must have a true sense of your sin and need. Your sin has put you in a hopeless position before God. The problem of your bad record, bad heart and bad life must become a pressing, urgent concern. You must have a sense of God’s holy anger against your sin and that you deserve punishment now and forever. You must understand that God offers mercy to sinners through Christ’s life, death and resurrection alone. You must ask God to enable you to repent and believe. You must turn away from your sin, and ask for forgiveness and mercy. You must trust Christ alone for your salvation.

DO YOU WANT TO BECOME A TRUE WORSHIPPER OF THE ONE TRUE GOD?

Seek God alone in prayer. Confess your sins to God. Confess that your sins are evil and you deserve hell for them. Tell God that you have no power to save yourself. Ask the Lord Jesus to help you repent and believe. Cry out to the Lord Jesus for mercy. Ask Him to save you. Tell Jesus that you want Him to be Lord of your life. Tell God that you want to be one of His true worshippers.

HERE ARE GOD’S PROMISES AND WARNINGS

Isaiah 55:6-7 Seek the LORD while He may be found; call on Him while He is near. Let the wicked forsake his way and the evil man his thoughts. Let him turn to the LORD, and He will have mercy on him, and to our God, for He will freely pardon. Luke 13:3 ...Unless you repent, you will all... perish. John 3:36 Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever does not obey the Son will not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him. John 5:24 I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes Him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life. Romans 10:9-10;13 ... If you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved."
